DeSantis Rising

So it’s a few days after the mid-term elections, and things went about just as the transits said they would. There was an unexpected result (Sun opposite Uranus) with the Democrats doing much better than forecast, and also a few snafus with voting machines and ballots.

I mentioned how two days after we’d have a depressive transit, and sure enough, both sides are feeling that way, with everything still up in the air because there’s so many elections still to be decided.

Many newspapers are saying Trump ended up the biggest loser, for how poorly the candidates he backed did, and yet DeSantis won Florida easily. So this has really boosted DeSantis’s chances for the White House, during the very week Trump is going to announce his candidacy. In two polls, DeSantis went from an even match with Trump to ten points ahead. Even Boyles Sports now has DeSantis’s odds at 5:2, ahead of Trump at 10:3.

So let’s see how much of a chance he has.

Major caveat: There’s no birthchart with an accurate time for DeSantis, and so that greatly limits what we can tell, especially without transits to his Midheaven. But here’s what we can know.

Saturn

Saturn opposite Saturn  May 2023 - Jan 2024

This one all depends on how you’ve been doing your work. If you’ve been on the right track and responsible, then, as Robert Hand says, “In your work you may reach a peak of success.” But if you’re in the wrong job or haven’t done the work, you might face “Extreme difficulties in your work situation, such as finding your efforts blocked by coworkers or superiors.”

In short, this is the halfway mark of a Saturn cycle where Saturn makes you prove you have the right stuff to carry on. And since DeSantis has done well with his voters, this should help keep that going, right to the first primaries.

Saturn trine Venus
  May 2023 - Jan 2024

During the same time period he has a good trine to Venus, helping with investments and appealing to people.

Saturn trine Uranus  March - December 2024

Here Saturn is able to work with inventive Uranus to make innovative changes. Good for his work and not getting so rigid in his ideology.

Saturn square Neptune  April 2024 - Jan 2025

Neptune represents our hopes and aspirations, and when Saturn squares it, it’s a time of disappointment and disillusionment. Not at all a good sign to have during the election and Inauguration.

Uranus

Uranus trine Sun  June 2022 - April 2024

This is a great transit for campaigning in that it makes you interesting and dynamic. Very helpful for adapting to situations. But it runs out six months before the election.

Neptune

Neptune trine Jupiter  March 2024 - Feb 2027

This one would be great for a poet or musician. As a politician it would give him grander ideas, a broader vision, and a bit more compassion. Also able to project a grand illusion, essential for any campaign.

Pluto

Pluto square Mars  Jan 2020 - Jan 2023

He’s almost through with a few years of Pluto square his Mars, which would have made him much more combative and hard on his opponents. Just as we’ve seen with him rebelling against Covid restrictions and bickering with Trump.

Pluto opposite Jupiter  Feb 2022 - Dec 2025

This one is the key transit here, because it’s not only one of the strongest, but it will be in effect for all of his campaign and his first year in office. At its best it can give a lot of energy and drive, and also help to transform your ideas of yourself and your place in the world (Jupiter rules philosophy and religion, as well as the law). But if you turn those energies outward and try to change everyone else, it doesn’t work so well.

This transit will make you drive yourself and others around you to attain success, excellence or preeminence in some way. It represents the drive to actualize an ideal you hold about how the world ought to be. The danger of this transit is that you may become arrogant and domineering toward those around you, as if you were a kind of superman, above all morality and law except your own.
If you decide to become a law unto yourself, the law of society may have to stop you.
     - Robert Hand, Planets in Transit

So yeah, not exactly what you’d like to see for his first year in office. And in fact, we've already seen its effects this year - how he became a law unto himself in shipping refugees to Martha's Vineyard and also attained success in being reeleected as governor.

The Big Events

Do the big days give any clues?

For Election Day, he has the Sun conjunct his Uranus the day before, which will help him look like the candidate for freedom. And for Election Day, he has Mars conjunct his Jupiter, which is a great sign for getting your way.

But Mercury is square his Saturn for the day after, which isn’t good because it can make you depressed. Or maybe just impatient as the votes are counted.

Also, remember that caution I mentioned about conflict right before the Election, for Oct 24-28? DeSantis might be mixed up in that because he has Mars square his Mars for October 20-25.

And finally, for Inauguration Day, he has the Sun opposite his Jupiter. This is a very fortunate sign for success and feeling lucky, though you don’t want to get cocky.

Summary

So in all, he’s got two helpful transits from Saturn and two downers. An electric transit from Uranus that runs out too soon. A great one from Neptune, and two powerful but antagonistic ones from Pluto.

And for the big days, he has great transits to his Jupiter, showing success.

Put it all together, and he has a definite road to the White House. But it’s going to be difficult, and, with Saturn square his Neptune, from the convention to the Inauguration, probably not all that he expected.

Another Look at Trump

It’s hard to say whether DeSantis’s boost will last more than a few months, but if it does, it definitely gives a different take on Trump's Uranus transits.

Remember, he has Uranus square his Mars during the campaign and after, which will definitely show him throwing his anger about. But it could also mean most of that anger is directed at DeSantis and everyone who abandoned him.

And Uranus conjunct his Midheaven will definitely give him back all that dynamic showmanship he had in 2016, but as I mentioned the other day, since it means a change in his public status, it could mean a fall from grace as well.

Here’s how Betty Lundstead describes it in her book Transits:

We may get unexpected promotions. If we have not been pulling our weight in the business community, we may be let go from a job and it may be a surprise.
The universe cannot give us what we have not earned, so this transit is impossible to predict. But if energy has been constructively directed up until this point, the transit should not bring dire distress, but some kind of opportunity.

So it’ll be really interesting to see how things turn out. Because while business leaders like Trump's tax cuts, investors don’t like the roller coaster ride of his changing moods, and the GOP is beginning to see he’s no longer their best salesman, but actually a liability to their power.
